The Associated Press reported Wednesday that a Chicago Alderman named Joe Moreno has pledged to block construction of a Chick-fil-A restaurant in his ward over Cathy’s anti-gay views. Boston Democratic Mayor Thomas Menino is also trying to block construction of a Chick-fil-a restaurant over its president’s anti-gay views.

Menino and Moreno have it wrong.

Real talk: You (via motherjones)

:/ Yeah, as much as I’m all, “Fuck Chick-fil-A and their hate” this seems like it’s flirting awfully hard with a first amendment violation.

Calls for boycotts are one thing (which I completely agree with doing), but when you start blocking construction because you don’t like a business’s political stances, it sets precedents, for example, lets say a mayor of town decides that they want to block construction of a business that is publicly pro-gay equality, or blocking a business run by an atheist from operating in their town.

I feel these guy’s hearts are in the right place, and I agree in principal, but again, it sets a dangerous precedent.
