Socialism is worker control of the means of production. welfare spending ≠ control of means of production. European socialists who think welfare spending is socialism are just wrong.
North Korea is a fascist state, but they call themselves a ‘people’s republic’. Does that mean that ‘republics’ and ‘fascist states’ are now the same thing? No it does not.
This isn’t a no true scotsman. This is about knowing what socialism is and what it isn’t.
I think a lot of Americans would do well to learn this lesson.
