This is why we can’t have nice things
They DO like to go after Mrs. Obama for wearing beautiful clothing, which I can sorta understand: a lot of people are out of work and in debt, and the First Lady should be respectful of that (just as the Duchess of Cambridge, even with her massive clothing allowance from Prince Charles, is mindful to repeat outfits).
That said, I think it’s another instance of subconscious racism — oh there she goes, gettin uppity again — ‘cause I don’t recall people caring that Laura Bush wore a lot of Oscar de la Renta, even during the wartime years after 9/11.
At the end of the day, Michelle Obama earned it. She and her husband have made a very good living in the private sector (she as a hospital exec, he as a bestselling author) and why shouldn’t she dress to represent her success?
Spoiler alert, guys: THEY’RE NOT ACTUALLY SOCIALISTS. They’re capitalists, and proud of it.
Once you understand that, you’ll understand why she wears nice things. And maybe you’ll find you’re a lot more like her than you realize.
