I suppose people will come up with any excuse they can to cover for the fact that they hate.
People don’t want to think that they’re “bad”, everyone wants to think they’re a good person. The thing is there is all this shit that is subconsciously programmed into you and you don’t even realize it when you’re being biased or bigoted.
It’s like you do it automatically, it happens behind the scenes below your threashold of awareness.
Then when someone calls you out on it, you don’t want to admit that you might be being shitty, and then you make an excuse.
The thing is, if you don’t react to the “knee-jerk” instinct to defend yourself, and you think about it for a second, you can ask yourself why you have this particular bias or prejudice, you can become aware of it. You can see if it’s affecting decisions you make or opinions you have.
When we’re aware of these things, you can keep them in mind when you get that initial gut reaction to something.
This way you can start chipping away at all these notions and ideas that we’ve had programmed into us our entire life.
Don’t just jump back and start making excuses so as not to feel like your a “bad person” - try to be a better person.
