"‎”Either people believe that was President Obama apologizing for America, or they don’t, but how can a fact checker say it’s not true?"

- Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly decrying fact checks, 10/23/12

But…

An array of fact-checkers have rated the right-wing’s oft cited claim that President Obama embarked on an “apology tour” as false. It’s one of the most repeated lies this election cycle, courtesy of the conservative echo chamber.

And that’s the missing piece here. Kelly ignores that people hold those beliefs in part because Fox News and other right-wing outlets manufacture perpetuate them with deliberate misinformation. For another example, look at how the right-wing and the fossil fuel industry have created a false debate about the existence of global warming.

This is why right-wing lies never go away no matter how many times they are proven to be false. It will be ignored and hammered on by the right wing media, and when all else fails, substitute opinions for facts.
