Fox News Faults Obama For “Not Saying” What They Edited Out

(Liberals Unite) - This is one of the better researched examples of Fox News deliberately editing film footage to make false accusations against President Obama.

This clip demonstrates some of the clearest evidence of dishonest Fox News quote mining I have ever seen.

Fox News: Reason Caused the Holocaust: “Once you start using reason, next thing you know, you’re committing a mass genocide.”

Anthony Foxx, the mayor of Charlotte and Obama’s pick for the next Secretary of Transportation, issued two city proclamations yesterday. One of them recognized the National Day of Prayer; the other one declared the day to be a Day of Reason. The second proclamation noted that the country was founded on the principles of reason and that “it is the duty and responsibility of every citizen to promote the development and application of reason.” Even though we have no evidence that Mayor Foxx was taking a passive-aggressive swipe at the folks at Fox News, they decided to take it as an affront anyway, bringing on Penny Nance, the CEO of Concerned Women for America, to worry that once you start using reason, next thing you know, you’re committing a mass genocide and starting a world war.

“You know the Age of Enlightenment and Reason gave way to moral relativism. And moral relativism is what led us all the way down the dark path to the Holocaust.”

While my reasonable side suggests I shouldn’t argue with fools, I can’t help but point out that anti-Semitic institutions like the Spanish Inquisition and the myth of blood libel long predate the age of enlightenment. Then again, that’s using reason, and we know how Nance feels about that. As Jon Stewart famously demonstrated, Nazis are Fox News’ catch-all villain, used to denounce anything they dislike: being liberal, supporting Obama, criticizing Fox News for its misinformation.

This shit is so absurd that I would laugh at it if only so many Americans didn’t think this way.

Fox News Viewers think that Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity Are Helping Obama cover up the truth about Benghazi

(readingisforsnobs.com) - Hannity made a tweet bashing Obama for his supposed hypocrisy on taxes, and was no doubt expecting a flood of agreement from his followers. It didn’t exactly work out that way.

Yes, instead of getting behind him, his followers turned their ire to Hannity himselffor supposedly (I swear, you can’t make this shit up) protecting the evil, socialist, Kenyan muslim by not reporting on Benghazi enough.

Let that sink in for a moment. Sean Hannity, no seriously, SEAN FUCKING HANNITY, for reasons that have yet to be clarified, is doing his best to somehow helpBarack Hussein Bin Laden Obama! We’re so far down the rabbit hole at this point that we’ve already passed China.

This wasn’t limited to just Hannity either. His own colleague, Bill “Papa Bear” O’Reilly, also wasn’t able to escape the wrath of these, for lack of a better term, “people”.

Fox Reporter: Military Opposition To Anti-Gay Hate Speech Is A Sign Of “The End Of Days”

(Media Matters) - Fox News Radio reporter Todd Starnes criticized an email from a U.S. Army officer condemning anti-gay hate speech, suggesting that the email was a sign of “the end of days” and warning his audience that “your military is being turned against you.”

How Ben Carson Got Burned By The Fox News Flame

(Media Matters) - When political novices fly too close to the Fox News flame, they risk getting burned. Just ask Dr. Ben Carson.

After profiting from a Fox News public relations blitz for much of the past two months, during which he logged at least twenty appearances on the network, the famous neurosurgeon, who has been toasted inside right-wing circles as a possible GOP savior, has suddenly been forced to defend his “trainwreck” interview where helikened  marriage equality supporters to people advocating pedophilia and bestiality.

[…]

not only did Carson badly stumble with his shocking comments about marriage equality, but as we’ve seen from this predictable model, he’s also been turned into a professional victim by the right-wing media, whose practitioners like nothing better than ignoring substantive debates in order to complain about alleged biases in the press coverage. (All the while being careful not to actually repeat or explain what Carson’s scandalous remarks were, of course.)

Cue Rush Limbaugh:

-“We are in the midst of mob rule now. In this case led by the trolls at Media Matters and aided and abetted by the so-called mainstream media.”

-“Amidst all this talk of equality, Ben Carson is not allowed to voice his opinion.”

And from excitable Breitbart editor John Nolte:

Any one notice a pattern here? I’ll give you a hint, when is the only time the right-wing talking heads seem to care about racism or sexism?

I also love how these guys like to act like they are being victimized whenever there’s backlash against something hateful or bigoted they’ve said.

No one stopped him from voicing his opinion, he voiced it, and a lot of people thought it was a shitty opinion. That’s the way the grown up world works.

Fox News radio host: LGBT rights make Christians ‘second-class citizens’

(The Raw Story) - Fox News radio host Todd Starnes says that the push for equal rights for LGBT people is making Christians who believe in the “Biblical definition of marriage” into “second-class citizens.”

During a Monday interview with conservative radio host Sandy Rios, the often-outraged Starnes reacted to the possibility that the U.S. Supreme Court could rule in favor of marriage equality.

“What concerns me, though, Sandy, is the vitriol coming from those who support gay marriage,” Starnes declared. “You know, I’m the kind of person that is more than happy to sit down and talk and debate and listen to what people have to say. I may not agree with it, but at least, you know, it’s their right to have their opinion under our Constitution.”

“And yet, there seems to be this opinion on the other side that says, you know what, you and I don’t deserve the same rights,” he opined. “You know, it’s as if we’re second-class citizens now because we support the traditional, Biblical definition of marriage or perhaps we are pro-life, and that means we’re somehow second-class citizens who don’t deserve to be in the public marketplace of ideas.”

WHAAAAAAAA!!!! Not allowing us to keep a group of people from having the same rights we do using our religion as an excuse makes us second class citizens.

Cry me a river.

Tea Partiers Are Boycotting Fox News: Activists have a list of demands for the conservative network they believe is “turning left”

(The Daily Beast) - Is Fox News going soft?

That is what a number of Tea Party activists are saying, and they are organizing a boycott to protest the conservative station’s coverage, especially what they view as the network’s relative silence in investigating the attacks on a diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya.

“Particularly after the election, Fox keeps turning to the left,” said Stan Hjerlied, 75, of Fort Collins, Colorado, and a participant in the boycott. He pointed to an interview Fox News CEO Roger Ailes gave after the election in which he said that the Republican Party and Fox News need to modernize, especially around immigration. “So we are really losing our only conservative network.”

The three-day boycott lasted Thursday morning through Sunday morning, and is the second time this group of activists has gone Fox-free in an effort to steer the coverage. Organizers say a two-day boycott earlier this month knocked 20 percent off of the network’s regular viewership. (A Daily Beast analysis of the same data showed that the boycott had little effect.)

A spokeswoman for Fox News did not respond to a request for comment.

A leader of the boycott, Kathy Amidon, of Nashville, declined an interview, instead directing The Daily Beast to a website, Benghazi-Truth. The website, a single-page, 23,000-word manifesto complete with multicolored fonts, supposedly incriminating videos of Fox News’s complicity in a cover-up, and communist propaganda photographs, is kept by someone who identifies himself online as “Proe Graphique,” and who other members of the boycott described as someone who works “in New York media.”

By way of explanation, the website reports: “People ask why not all mainstream media? Why just Boycott FOX? The answer, again, is that FOX needs the Tea Party/conservatives more than the conservatives need FOX after FOX turned left, basically selling out the people who made FOX successful in an attempt to earn an extra buck. FOX is extremely vulnerable to these boycotts while the rest of the MSM doesn’t need us at all, to speak of.”

Organizers then encourage would-be Fox News viewers to wait until the One America network, which is supposed to launch this summer as an alternative to Fox, goes on the air.

Benghazi cover-up? More like conservative politicians kept trying to make it more than it actually was to score points - I mean don’t get me wrong, people got killed, and that’s horrible, but Republican politicians kept hammering on it like it was another 9/11.

These folks wanted it so badly to be something that would take down the Obama administration, and it just wasn’t up to something of that level.

Then there’s the whole ‘turn left’ deal. It seems like Fox has created its own monster with these people, but there could be something else going on. In my opinion the Tea Party is trying to shift Fox ever right so that the other networks have to move right to compensate - they are trying to shift the Overton window further right.

Fox News: Solar Power “Might Be Tanking Our Economy”

(Media Matters) - Fox News is pointing to one struggling solar company to suggest that the solar industry is “tanking our economy,” ignoring rapid growth in the clean energy sector that has helped, not hurt, our economy.

SoloPower, a California-based solar panel manufacturer, recently announced it will lay off workers in order to cut costs. The company received a federal loan guarantee but has been unable to draw down on it as it has not met the requirements. Fox News seized on SoloPower’s difficulties as evidence the solar industry “might be tanking our economy” during a Fox & Friends segment called “Who’s Ruining the Economy?” that regularly attacks green energy investments.

In fact, solar industry jobs grew more than twice as fast as the rest of the economy between 2003 - 2010. While some solar manufacturers have struggled to compete with heavily subsidized Chinese competitors, falling solar panel prices are driving record installations and putting solar energy on track to become cost-competitive with fossil fuels within a decade.

image

Experts note that it is common for an industry to consolidate as it matures, as some companies are out-competed or bought out by larger companies. But Fox News has repeatedly pointed to individual companies in order to smear the entire clean energy industry. This segment was no exception, featuring a graphic purportedly showing the Obama administration’s “failed” clean energy investments, most of which have not actually failed.

While Fox News claims solar power is “tanking our economy,” it campaigns for policies that could actually inflict severe harm on the economy such as Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget plan, which would impose severe spending cuts while possibly raising taxes on the middle class.

There is this culture among conservatives where they will immediately mock/dismiss green technologies.

Remember how Fox took to bashing the Chevy Volt when it was released and then turned around and debunked their own myths about it being an “exploding Obamamobile” and said it was a “weapon against terrorism’?

You ever think that maybe, just maybe, this bashing is because alternative energy is a threat to big oil’s profits? And who is giving tons of money to our conservative friends in congress? - You guessed it! Big oil.

I imagine the whole Volt turn-around on Fox News had to do with GM thinking that it just might be affecting sales. After GM’s Former Vice Chairman, Bob Lutz had enough with the lies being spread about the car it seems Fox News changed their tune.

You might not want to believe that Fox has enough influence to affect sales of an automobile in this way, but from the looks of things, it might be the case.

It’s worth noting, that in 2012 the Volt tripled its sales.

They are pulling a Chevy Volt on solar power, unfortunately, the Solar industry doesn’t have friends in conservative circles the way GM does.

I’m guessing it has to do with the fact that the entirety of the GOP message relies on the economy not recovering - along with making our current president look like “the worst president ever”.

Good news is bad news for the GOP, and in turn Fox News.

Trigger warning for rape and rape threats.

Once again Fox News viewers and commenters at The Blaze show what shining examples of humanity they are after Democratic strategist and rape survivor Zerlina Maxwell appeared on Fox’s Hannity to discuss teaching men not to rape instead of teaching women how to avoid being raped.

Of course, the viewers took to twitter and commenting on an article about the appearance on The Blaze to tell her that they “hope she gets raped” and to throw around plenty of racial slurs.

Rove Appears On Fox News To Defend New Anti-Tea Party Group From Conservative Critics

(Media Matters) - Karl Rove appeared on Fox News’ Hannity to defend his new group, the Conservative Victory Project, against complaints from fellow conservatives that it would undermine the Tea Party movement. Rove, a Fox News contributor who regularly appears on the network advance his political agenda, insisted that the group is not an attempt to protect the GOP establishment over Tea Party candidates, but to promote “the most conservative candidate that can win.”

The New York Times reported on February 2 that the Conservative Victory Project , which is backed by Rove and his allies who were also involved in his American Crossroads super PAC, is “the most robust attempt yet by Republicans to impose a new sense of discipline on the party.”

During the February 5 edition of Hannity, host Sean Hannity noted that Rove’s new effort has “drawn the ire of conservatives and the Tea Party,” who are “accusing Karl Rove of putting the establishment ahead of conservative principles.” Indeed, conservative media figures have been vocal about their opposition to Rove’s new anti-Tea Party project.

Hannity expressed his own concern about the group, saying to Rove: “My fear is, is that if Karl Rove is fighting the Tea Party and conservatives are battling establishment candidates … I am concerned that we’re going to lose.”

The GOP was more than happy to co-opt the Tea Party back when the movement was was a popular bandwagon to jump on.

They (the Tea Party) have been spewing the same ignorant, hateful BS all along, it’s just that now that they are more in the eye of the public and the media (and have had a chance to enact their policies) a lot more people are starting to see them for what they really are.

Thing is, the shit the Tea Party spews is basically just more of the same shit that conservatives have been spewing for years. Just louder, with more bile and, in my opinion, with more honesty about their true motivations.

This has always been how the GOP was, it’s just more in the spotlight now, and folks like Rove are starting to feel the heat of that spotlight.

Confronted With 97 Percent Of Climate Scientists, Fox Makes Up Stats

(Media Matters) - On Fox News, Republican strategist Brad Blakeman denied the scientific consensus on manmade climate change, saying “For every one scientist that says there is, I’ll give you 10 scientists that said it’s not manmade”

But in fact, credible surveys have repeatedly found that the vast majority of climate scientists agree humans are changing the climate. For instance, a 2009 survey published by the American Geophysical Union found that 97 percent of those who specialize in climate science said human activity is contributing to rising global temperatures:

The American Geophysical Union and several other scientific bodies including the National Academy of Sciences have acknowledged manmade climate change based on a strong and growing body of evidence.

Despite all of this, Fox News has continually and falsely claimed the consensus on climate change does not exist — yet another example of the network’s willful denial of facts. As MSNBC host Rachel Maddow put itafter the 2012 presidential election, conservative media need to “pop the factual bubble” if they’re going to offer solutions to our problems rather than just wish them away.

We’re guessing that right-wing media didn’t throw a tantrum when Bush had children present when signing the No Child Left Behind law. Or when Bush invited families of “snowflake” babies to the White House as he vetoed embryonic stem cell research funding.

Right-Wing Media Attack Colin Powell After Meet The Press Interview.

Conservative media launched vicious attacks against former Secretary of State Colin Powell in an effort to discredit his remarks and Republican credentials after Powell criticized Republicans for having a “dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the party.”

(Media Matters) - Powell On GOP: There’s “A Dark Vein Of Intolerance In Some Parts Of The Party”; “They Still Sort Of Look Down On Minorities.” During the January 13 edition of NBC’s Meet the Press, former Secretary of State Colin Powell condemned Republicans for “intolerance” toward minorities. Powell specifically pointed to racially charged comments directed at President Obama during the recent presidential campaigns by former Republican Govs. Sarah Palin and John Sununu:

POWELL: There’s also a dark — a dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the party. What do I mean by that? I mean by that is they still sort of look down on minorities. How can I evidence that? When I see a former governor [Sarah Palin] say that the president is shuckin’ and jivin’ — that’s a racial-era slave term. When I see another former governor [John Sununu] after the president’s first debate where he didn’t do well, says that the president was lazy. He didn’t say he was slow, he was tired, he didn’t do well; he said he was lazy. Now, it may not mean anything to most Americans, but to those of us who are African-Americans, the second word is shiftless, and then there’s a third word that goes along with it. Right Wing Media Attack Powell For His Comments

Fox’s Laura Ingraham: ” The Weapon Of Mass Destruction Has Been Found, The Democrats Found It. It Was Colin Powell.” On the January 15 edition of Fox News’ Fox & Friends, Fox News contributor Laura Ingraham attacked Powell for his comments on Meet The Press. During the interview she claimed that Powell was trying to atone for his testimony on weapons of mass destruction as secretary of state in the Bush Administration. She continued:

INGRAHAM: Again, look, Colin Powell, I happen to know him a little bit. I think he’s a very nice guy. He’s a wonderful person, patriotic man, great service to this country. But it’s a very curious thing  right? Colin Powell went to the U.N., he  gave his testimony about weapons of mass destruction. He wrote in his memoir that that was kind of a low point for him, he didn’t have all the information. It seems that Colin Powell is trying to continue to expiate for his sins of that testimony.

[…]

So the weapon of mass destruction, Gretchen, has been found. The Democrats found it. It was Colin Powell, OK? It’s blowing up on the Republicans. I wrote a piece about Colin Powell in 1995, an op-ed for TheNew York Times, saying why Colin Powell is a bad choice for the GOP to be the nominee. It was a long time ago when I was a lawyer. But again, I like Colin Powell, but I’m not really clear why he’s a Republican these days. It doesn’t seem to really compute. [Fox News, Fox & Friends, 1/15/2013]

Fox’s Kelly On Colin Powell Interview: “With Friends Like That In The Republican Party, Who Needs Enemies?” After playing a clip of Powell’s comments, Fox host Megyn Kelly commented that Powell still claims to be a Republican, “but, whoa, with friends like that in the Republican Party, who needs enemies?” [Fox News, America Live, 1/14/2013]

Fox’s The Five: “Colin Powell Unhinged.” During the January 14 edition of Fox News’ The Five, the co-hosts discussed Powell’s comments as a graphic on a video wall behind them stated, “Colin Powell Unhinged.”

Fox News and truth don’t get along very well.
