The Grand Old Party is not looking so grand these days.  I don’t want them dead, just their political careers.  This is a sad, sad scar on our political timeline.  I wonder what future generations will say when they look back at this.  Will they have to double check the dates to ensure they’re reading news from the right decade?

1/3 of Texans Believe Humans and Dinosaurs Co-Existed

nonplussedbyreligion:

If God existed, I’d wish he would help his ignorant followers in Texas:

Nearly a third of Texans believe humans and dinosaurs roamed the earth at the same time, and more than half disagree with the theory that humans developed from earlier species of animals, according to the University of Texas/Texas Tribune Poll.

38 percent said human beings developed over millions of years with God guiding the process and another 12 percent said that development happened without God having any part of the process. Another 38 percent agreed with the statement “God created human beings pretty much in their present form about 10,000 years ago.”

Did humans live at the same time as the dinosaurs? Three in ten Texas voters agree with that statement; 41 percent disagree, and 30 percent don’t know.

Also here’s some evidence that Texas Democrats are smarter than Republicans:

Democrats (28 percent) are less likely than Republicans (47 percent) to think that humans have always existed in their present form and more likely (21 percent to 7 percent) to think humans have developed over millions of years without God’s guidance. Republicans are less likely to believe that humans developed from earlier species of animals; 26 percent agree, while 60 percent disagree. Among Democrats in the survey, 46 percent agree that humans evolved from earlier species; 42 percent disagree. Perry’s voters were most hostile to this premise — 67 percent disagree.

Looks like there’s a good part of Texas that needs to be told about the last couple centuries of scientific enlightenment.

Oh my stars, you can’t make this stuff up.  I have friends and followers from TX who I’m proud to say are not amongst the ignorant.  Unfortunately they have to live, work, and vote with them.  {{hugs}}  All emphasis mine.  ~ Kim

I had no idea this happened…

nonplussedbyreligion:

“These gentlemen are the moral equivalents of America’s founding fathers.” — Ronald Regan while introducing the Mujahideen leaders to media on the White house lawns (1985).

I’ll blame it on being 8 and more tuned in to He-Man and The Ewoks  cartoons, than politics at the time.  I did study Reaganomics in college but still didn’t know about this happening. (It was actually Economics but my professor thought the sun rose and set out of Reagan’s ass)  In the interest of fairness, I guess I could have researched what the face of the Taliban looked liked in 1985 before posting this.  Maybe I’m missing the full picture here.  Then I remembered their religion and decided to save myself the time.  For those of you who already knew about this; Wow.  For those just reading this for the first time like I am; Wow.  I love history, or rather the recording of it. ~ Kim

Something else Reagan lovers conveniently forget is the uproar surrounding his comments about Nazi solders being victims after he laid a  wreath at a cemetery that held the graves of 49 members of the  Waffen-SS, an elite wing Hitler’s Nazi Party.

reasonoverreligion replied to your photo: Why do atheists care about god?

I care not about god, I care about his followers. The religions based around them. I care about humanity. Sadly god and humanity seem to dance together much to oft in my opinion.

I feel pretty much the same way, I don’t believe in any god, period, the universe and everything in it are natural phenomenon.

I care about our species and want to see it reach it’s full potential, and in my opinion, religion is a detriment to that. When you start denying empirical proof in favor of an old mis-translated text, you are holding back progress, you are holding back the human race.

I try to imagine how much further technology could progress if we weren’t using so many resources fighting over who has the best imaginary friend, how many medical and scientific advances have been held back due to dogma or offense to religious sensibilities.

How far has social progress been held back due to the same things, not to mention the horrors religion has brought on the world, and all the people though out the generations who have died because of it.

While I respect people’s freedom to worship I abhor organized religion, it’s all a scam, a fraud used to subvert and control a population. Look at all the fucked up shit going on in Washington right now, look at how our country is being run in the interest of large corporations and not in the interest of the common citizen, all this crap is going on and it’s because there are so many people who look at a politician’s so called morality and religious values as opposed to rather or not they are doing what is in the best interest of the people who they represent.

Sure they’re pandering to their religious voters who believe that they are being done a service due to limiting the freedoms and actions of people who’s life style and or choices of how to live their lives offend them, but what are they really doing behind the scenes? - running our fucking country into the ground and taking it’s people with it, and all so many of them see is the “moral” aspect of it.

In other words, religion is being used as a front to push a corporate agenda, and to fill the coffers of CEOs of large corporations who don’t give a fuck about the common citizen, all the while the people who voted for the politicians who are destroying them and their country pat their selves on the back because their representatives are “good christians”.

The worse part is the politicians doing this shit know what they are doing, they have it down to a finely tuned science, using the same techniques that religion uses to sway the masses.

It makes me sick!
